I've probably never said it aloud in English. However in my head it's "ex two sixty-four". If I do say the name, it's in German: "Iks zwo-vierundsechzig", which is a 1:1 translation of "ex two sixty-four".

I'd read it as "ex two sixty-four" in English and the equivalent of "ex two six four" in my native Finnish.

I consider 264 to be a sequence of digits, not really a number. It's the ID assigned to the standard, and the IDs of various standards are not consecutive nor even very ordered. so, "ex two six four"

In my head it has always been "ex two hundred and sixty-four", and in my native french it was the "litteral" form too: iks deux cent soixante-quatre (and it's a pain in the a** to say too).

Yes, and a h.262 and h.261 before that. But only the last digit is incremental, the first two are just random. See all the other h.something standards (http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H/e).

And here I was suprised to hear people say "sequel" after having assumed for years it was "s q l". No, if I wanted a name with vowels in it, I'd write the vowels. This isn't Hebrew.

here x264 is "ics due sei quattro", much in the same way H.264 is pronounced - and I'm pretty sure this is the standard way to spell it (the standard, and thus the encoder).

Strictly speaking, my answer should have been: "you don't say it, you don't have geek friends around to say it" but in my head, it's always been "ex two six four". Probably because it's the simplest and requires only one syllable each.

Hmm, I've never given a thought as to how it's pronounced in my native language. Now that I have, it's ex dalawa anim apat... That's pretty long which is why I almost never count in my native language.

"Zwo" is an alternative form of "zwei" to avoid confusion with the very similar sounding "drei" (3). A lot of people use it more generally, especially when quickly saying a sequence of numbers. Probably because "zwo" is a little quicker and easier to pronounce than "zwei".

Same thing exists with the months Juni (June) and Juli (July). Sometimes Juli is pronounced "Julei". In contrast to "zwo" I've never seen this written, though.

in arabic i say "ex two hundred and sixty-four" it feels more natural. in english i say "ex two six four" more easy for me.
