Hi, I just wanted to post this here because, afterall, it is the newbie channel. I'm relatively new to backing up my own movies, and have been met with high success. I have been able to backup my movies into h264 at 1800kbps using StaxRip.

One thing I've ventured into is subtitles. It seems, everywhere I look it's a dead end. I want to include subtitles into the .mp4 container that I can disable / enable at will, without actually encoding it into the video permanently. Is this possible?

I seem to get confused when searching the forums for subtitle help... so if somebody could point me in the right direction, it would help tremendously. Thanks.

If you can't do it within StaxRip then try re-muxing the finished file including the external subs.

For mp4 subtitles, search for TTXT, especially in the subtitles and containers forums. That'll give you everything out there on using softsubs with mp4, including how to convert basic SubRip (srt) subs to ttxt. The other option is vobsubs, the graphical subs from DVDs, but those are only somewhat supported (mostly by nero). Neither are hardsubbed into the video stream.
