just purchased a new laptop that came with vista home professional.. i copied my old xvid archives my brother had encoded for me that played on my old machine fine.. i downloaded the latest codec on the xvid site yet the videos are not playing and windows media player can not identify the video type.. any suggestions?

Yes there is compatibility problem in Vista WM11 version. Even VLAN cannot play any video type in Vista. I will curse that richest man if cannot solve this problem within a month :p

ah ok.. thought i was going crazy.. im sure alot of people are having problems then.. i dont mind vista but this is just one of the many things that need to be fixed

Are you having problems with 32-bit Vista or 64-bit?

I see you use WMP. Can I suggest that you just get one of the directshow players instead? mpc, zoomplayer, there are many ~

With the latest ffdshow installed, all of my xvid (and other) encodes play perfectly in Vista 32bit using WMP 11, latest version of MPC or VLC player. No problems whatsoever.
