View Full Version : DVD Decrypter Pixillation Question

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help answer this question. I began using DVD Decrypter with the PSL2 plugin for PGcEdit VERY recently. I am already familiar with DVD Shrink but needed another program in order to back up some discs (not legit titles, but live musical performances) that DVD Shrink could not handle.
Anyway, DVD Decrypter does allow me to complete rips to my hard drive, but I am finding that the picture breaks up into pixillated squares at some points in the discs that I burn from the backed up files. This pixillation is not present in the original discs. I am also running Fix VTS and VOB Blanker when prompted. Any ideas, suggestions?
Thanks,
David

This is undoubtedly a burning problem. Get better media (Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims), make sure your firmware is up to date. And do not attach adhesive labels to the disk.
Transferred.

Hi!
1) Use high quality burnable media, such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden ("T-Y")
2) Burn at a lower speed

I stick with Sony, TDK, or more recently Maxell, and burn at 4x. Never use labels or write on the discs, either. Another characteristic of the pixillation is that is seems to happen at the same point in the playback (ie, if I find a problem and reburn, the problem still seems to be present, in the same place). Again, thanks for the assistance!

To track down the problem maybe some more details how you rip and how you burn, Did you edit the files? Are you spliting by chapters when rip?

Sure. I'm ripping with DVD Decrypter and using VTSFix after the rip. I create an .iso file using Roxio EZ CD/DVD Creator and burn from that disc image. I'm not editing the files or splitting the chapters with ripping (at least that I know of).
Again, thanks for your patience and help.

1) Have you played the .ISO from your hard drive (You can do this without mounting the .ISO image file by using VLC for playback), to see if the .ISO exhibits the pixelization?
2) Quality-wise, I believe you'll find Verbatim and T-Y to be of higher quality than the Maxell DVDs you've been recently using

I haven't tried mounting the .ISO, but I definitely will, thanks. Generally speaking, I'm sure that there are superior brands out there, as far as media go, but I'm pretty certain that something else is the culprit here. To be honest, I guess I've been lucky, because I haven't really had very many problems with any brand of blank DVD that I've tried.

I'm pretty certain that something else is the culprit hereAll I can say is that, over the years, I've learned not to presume anything - especially when it's computer-related.
Let us know how it goes with the .ISO playback...

Point well taken!
