Hi,
I capture TV using my hardware encoder based WinTV card, and I get the TV as MPEG2 file, with mp2 audio. I need to convert it to XVID automatically(with MP3 audio), for which I guess need command line based solutions.

I guess i;ll need to use software like nandub and besweet for it?
Can anybody help me get started please? Atleast the list of software i'll need(free/open source) would help. I don't want a GUI, because i want this to happen automatically, once a show is recorded.

I saw the Gordian Knot, but it has a GUI, and hence I dont think it is what i need.

ffdshow/mencoder might be a good start

I tried XVID encoding with mencoder, but it was painfully slow. It was encoding at about 2 tto 3 fps! I have a 1.8 Ghz Pentium M, with 1.5 GB RAM, 7200 rpm HDD, and antivirus closed.

If you post your command line for mencoder, someone might be able to tell you, why it was so awfully slow... and if there is something to do about it.
