DTS decoding

I have backed up a few DVDs in AVI format with DTS ES or Dolby EX tracks (& XVID video). I was using ac3filter to send the audio stream to my external receiver through S/PDIF out and things were great.

Now I got a Creative x-fi XtremeGamer card and would like to connect the speakers directly to the card and move the receiver to another room. But ac3filter, AFAIK, doesn't fully decode DTS ES or Dolby EX (it does only 5.1). When I play the original DVD in latest edition of PowerDVD (came with x-fi) I get perfect sound from DTS ES tracks but it can't play the DTS tracks in the AVI file.

What are my options? Will WinDVD do it? Or ac3filter with 5.1 out is the only option if I want to get rid of the external receiver? I'd prefer a software decoder (PowerDVD/WinDVD/ac3filter) so that I'll just need a BD/HD-DVD drive when the format war settles. PowerDVD/WinDVD already supports DD Plus or DTS HD but my old receiver doesn't, so that receiver really has to go.

Looks like the XtremeGamer was not a good choice since it doesn't have a dolby/dts decoder chip. Probably I'll stay with s/pdif out from the motherboard to the external receiver and RMA the x-fi for the time being.

Hopefully someday there'll be a software decoder (ac3filter v2 may be) that'll do what PowerDVD/WinDVD do for EVO & VOB file types ...

Can you provide a sample? Have you tried VLC player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html)?
