Hello there,

problem is that if I have video file which is 624 MB, and VBR mp3 produced with LAME 72 MB, which should make 696 MB, and after joining em in Nandub the final avi is 703 MB. Also if opening this file in VirtualDub later it complains that something's bad with audio.
Well, am I missing something important here? All that normal? I tried already change audio/video interleave, but this doesn't change anything... Any suggestions?

The bigger filesize is an overhead of getting VBR MP3 into an AVI Stream. If you want to load it properly either use the very latest VDub.

Is this the real filesize (select file -> alt+enter).
Or is this the filesize that windows gives you when u look at the file in detailed view ?

The Real filesize always differs from the one windows displays in detailed viewmode. It usually some megs smaler.

And even if it is 703 MB there is no problem overburning this file on a 700MB CDR (Verbatim , Intenso , TDK , Phillips ...)
Nero can do this.

-> file -> settings -> expert settings -> overburn disc to xx minutes ... don`t know what exactly , I have the german version of nero.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I don't think that this is so much overhead. This should happen for every audio, unless the data is put into the AVI in one big chunk, but usually it is scattered in pieces all over the AVI file and this requires additional information about where all the chunks live. This is exactly what makes the file bigger. The smaller the chunks, the bigger the file.

Hi ingo,

are you here to help us poor little rippers with muxing AAC and/or Ogg into our poor sounding DivX AVIs ;) ??

Your help is much appreciated, believe me .....

SmithHV, muxing VBR MP3 to an AVI results in a couple megs of overhead. If you use the bitrate calculator built into Gordian Knot, it takes this into account and allows you to set a correct bitrate that will not result in oversize

I have it on the todo list, but don't count on me for the next 2-3 months.
