I have a problem with the FPS setting with DivX5 and XviD, but since I use DivX more, I thought I'd post this thread here...
It started like this: a friend asked me to rip a few DVDs to AVI so she could watch it on her DVD player (she likes 5-6 AVI movies on one DVD more than the originals). At first I used XviD at a standard bitrate (1h 45mins=700MB) and a 23.97 FPS. Unfortunately, the resulting file had "glitches" when the scene camera was moving slowly (no problems with fast or complicated scenes like quidditch (did I spell that correctly?) in Harry Potter movies or burning-fire scenes), which (somehow) resulted in freezing the whole DVD player. She said that she couldn't even turn it off until she pulled the plug. Next I tried using DivX5 with the same settings and, although the file still had those "glitches" she was able to watch it completely (as well as any other). But I wanted to know why's that happening! At first I thought that there's a problem with my ripping software, so I changed it, but it didn't work, the result was the same...
Well, after a few hours of slamming my head into a wall, I figured it out... I was watching TV with my TV card. It's always turned on every time I rip a DVD 'cause I don't have a standalone TV in my room (what the hell am I supposed to do for almost 12 hours besides sleeping, I can't stand silence), so I figured that that's exactly the problem.
OK, so finally, my question is:
Is there ANY way to avoid this "glitching" without turning off my TV (card)?
I even tried setting FPS to 30 but the result is just a bit different...
Strangely enough, RealAnime which I use to encode my decrypted DVDs to MP4 has no such problem... Please help!
