bidirectional coding and the fast mode

Adaptative Single Consecutive: does it save bits and improve encoding quality or save bits only? To save bits: that's all I can find about the bframes in the forums. Sorry for asking again about this much discussed subject.
Does the fast mode in DivX6 respect keyframe interval set longer than 60 frames?

B-frames save bits, which in turn means that there's more bits available for P and I frames. Which raises the overall quality of the movie (when shooting for a target bitrate).

If you must have best possible quality with no regard for file size, then B-Frames can theoretically hurt quality, though I've never seen that proven.

As for the keyframe interval and the performance modes, which is the fastest mode that respects the keyframe interval of 250-300 frames? Is it the Balanced mode like the Standard in DivX5?
