Feature requests for GKnot:
- There should be some recognition of the information contained in the filename (smartripper/dvd2avi-demuxed) of ac3 streams; f.ex. the delay value should be automatically added to the corresponding box, and there is no need to find gain values for stereo (two channel) or mono (1 channel) ac3's, which saves time on the encode. These ac3s need only dynamic compression.
- I would like it if the cropping options were recorded in the log file (whatever_GKnot.log). I sometimes have to do a movie several times to achieve perfect quality, or new tools arrive that make me want to redo a title, and this information would be valuable to me in such a case.

AFAIK the delay value for the AC3 file is entered into Gknot. I think it looks for the value in the actual filename. So if you had a file of "test DELAY -83.ac3" then when you click the mux button in Gknot that value should show up for you.

do 2chan ac3s need dynamic compression?

I've found that in general, light or even normal dynamic compression on ANY AC3 file is much easier on the ears.

pretty much all players apply some sort of compression to the Ac3 file before it goes to the speakers. So when you're converting it to MP3, it's a good idea to build that automatic compression in.

Well, it doesn't here... If it did I wouldn't be requesting the feature ;)

glenn,
Your file names must not be named properly I suppose. I found that you have to have a space before DELAY -83 or whatever the delay is. Are you using Gknot 0.22? Why it works for me and not you is beyond me:D

I use GKnot 0.21.1, since 0.22 has a bug as you might know? I demux the ac3 file directly off the dvd using SmartRipper, and I do nothing to the filename... Perhaps dvd2avi creates the correct filenames?

ahhh..yep your right. DVD2AVI gives the correct file name, that's the method I use. I tried the demuxing in SmartRipper awhile back that you use and found that it sometimes corrupts the AC3 so I just stick with DVD2AVI.
Yes I'm very familiar with the Gknot 0.22 2nd pass bug. However it doesn't affect me as I use Divx3 instead of Divx4:)

Well, coupled with D2V creation, SmartRipper saved me the entire step of going through DVD2AVI, I was hoping... I haven't had troubled with the ac3's I've demuxed this way, but ofcourse that doesn't rule out the fact that there may be issues on other people's systems...
Let's hope Tron fixes the filenames for the next version of SmartRipper then ;)
