SeeSaw or LSF+SootheT

Hey Guys,

which factors dictates when to go for SeeSaw or LSF+SootheT, by factors such as bitrate, .... ? trying to get better understanding of two? I tried to grasp from the their respective scripts but calls in those filter scripts were secant and tangent for me, beyond my comprehension :) ...

Its usually (in my opinion garnered from my tests) that LSF + Soothe are better suited for noisier or more unsettled videos.

Seesaw is better for more detailed sources, or sources that dont actually need anything done to them imo.

by detailed source u mean output video stream with high bitrate or something else?

Essentially, yes. In short, as little blocking, noise, rainbowing, etc. as possible. The cleaner the better, as well as the higher the bitrate the better.

Out of curiosity..

Since SeeSaw takes the output of a denoiser, what would a recommended denoiser for a basically clean DVD be? I currently use VagueDenoiser a lot, but I'm not sure if that's too much or too little denoising for a clean DVD. What are some other choices, and in which situations would someone use them?

@TwoToad: I use fft3dfilter (magic of fft3d is it can clean noise without taking away much details) as denoiser. though fft3d is slow, it gives awesome result. I have tried with both LSF+SootheT and SeeSaw. as R3Z suggested you can get more information from SeeSaw thread.

I have been browsing the SeeSaw thread. I tried the first suggestion in that thread of degrainmedian and vaugedenoiser, and the result looked like some scenes were painted in acrylic... :) But, that must have been a little too much denoising...

I haven't played with fft3dfilter before, but I hear a lot about it. I will have to educate myself on it!

I wasnt trying to sound like an ass, i just thought that i am going to look in that thread for examples anyway :)

Basically you will build up scripts that are better suited to some videos and some for others. Heres a good example of a clean dvd and the great effect seesaw had;

It really depends on the source ! The denoiser mcnr_simple2 is a very very good one. Search for that on these forums !

Please don't post five megs of images, even if it's a fast host people still use dial-up and metered broadband here, please replace with png or jpeg. Nice examples though.
