FLV (youtube) -> ¿something?

Hi guys. I wanted to convert some videos from youtube to something I can use "locally" for some presentations...

The way I found to download youtube videos was to .flv
Do you know how to convert them to avi, mpg, wmv or something I can use? :confused:

Or search the forums for DirectShow filters to play FLV files.

mplayer/mencoder or ffmpeg rocks :cool: They're both command-line but do almost anything you can dream of ^^


If you want a GUI-based solution, SUPER would be your friend (you'll understand why I said "would" when you try it).

I'm afraid many of the other popular GUI's around (staxrip, MeGUI, AutoMKV, etc.) don't support flv input (honestly I haven't tried them extensively but they don't plebicit it anyway).

If you're lucky you might find an pre-release application going by the name of "DivXtoDVD Converter" (last version v0.5.2.99).

Despite its name it's capable of converting loads of different A/V formats types (including .FLV) directly to MPEG-2 DVD .VOB files.... It's pretty fast too!

I use videoget from nuclear coffee. Its not free but it downloads and converts to .avi/.wmv/.mpg all in 1 go and is very easy to use, maybe you could give it a try, its available here: http://nuclear-coffee.com/php/products.php.
BTW I'm not a salesman I just think its a nice easy to use software.

I got to say i love super, it's well... super :)

i don't understand the would part as i find nothing worng with it to use?

Super installs its own codec pack in the windows folder when you install it, and it's pretty outdated, or at least it was last time I tried. They're also set as hidden/system/readonly, which can cause more grief if you try to update them later - avisynth's installer, for one, would crash if you'd had super installed at some point. Basically the typical codec pack problems, but worse than normal.

Legally, they also don't provide sources to the GPL software, or licenses to any of it, and to my knowledge have never answered questions about this by me or anyone else.

Btw I've just tried the latest version and it doesn't do what it's supposed to do, I ended up with a 600MB temp file which should have been a 70MB avc+aac in mp4 file.
