Does anyone know why Pan's Labyrinth DVD, already released in Europe, is not scheduled for release in Region 1 until May 15th?

Isn't that pretty typical of foreign movie DVD releases in the U.S.? The movie was released theatrically in the U.S. in late 2006.

No it's not. Usually DVD releases are a week or two apart between R2 and R1, not two months apart...

translation?
sure, the film would have been translated ages ago, but the extras were probably an afterthought.
and if there's an english dub that would take quite a bit of time to do.
also, not all distributors are very concerned with getting the title out as soon as possible. it may just be a matter of who's releasing it and what their plans for the title are (like delaying a release to have it coincide with a film festival, or something like that. though they should probably have done that for the oscars).

It seems that one reason for the two month delay (perhaps among other things) is that the R2 version is a 1 disc release, while the R1 version will be a 2 disc set with "Extras", including a bunch of featurettes...

Huh?? So it doesn't depends on the opening date in cinemas in each country??
R1 DVDs don't mean the DVDs are releases in all Europe, but only 1 country maybe. And then (a few weeks or months later) in aonther country, and so on. Or even they release in UK and then USA, and 6 months later in another country in Europe. :(
Are we talking about high-profile movies or indy movies ot straight-to-video movies?
