Nero Showtime

Nero showtime is supposed to be able to play HD DVD's with the latest update 7.8.5.0 provided you get the HD plug-in, has anyone tested this yet? like to know if its likely to work before I purchase.

Especially if it obeys the rules as written and does not downscale where it is not a REQUIREMENT of the aac specification.

Guess you can tell I have a none hdpc connection to my monitor!

Did you catch my CeBit report? As far as digital outputs are concerned, Showtime will act as if the DOT is set.. so no playback at all via unprotected digital link. You'll probably get full res via analog but 1920x1080 via analog - you can expect degradation there since analog output on GFX cards just aren't that great at high resolutions.

But if you're just concerned with getting proper HD output, then that's all you'll have to contend with, right? Or just get a new graphics card.... ;)

My problem which I hope nero will perhaps fix is this. I can get powerdvd 6.5 to work with stuttering vision and sound on winxp64 but not 7.1 or 7.3 I just get a blank screen (sound is ok and runs smoothly).

On vista 32bit using 7.1 or 7.3 (6.5 just crashes on vista) I get a similar blank screen and decent sound.

I'm using an xbox hd dvd drive and king kong to test. I've Demuxed it using the various guides on the forum and can play the video smoothly in graphedit using haali filters. haven't managed sound yet I'm still messing with it

But ideally I want a solution that doesn't involve filling up my HD!

I've set up my ATI x850 via a vga cable, but does anyone know if my problems are because I'm using a DVI to VGA converter? (card only has 2 DVI ports)

My display is non-compliant, but I'm happy to use VGA if I have to as the resolution is only 1280 x 1024 HD advisor shows all green except for graphics driver which it shows as unknown and the graphics driver which shows red.

If I have to get a new card I will but know one seems to give a definite answer as to which ones will work.

hi, posted in the full res playback thread but the plug-in seems to work a treat. Having issues on my XP machine (player crashes) but on my Vista machine it looks great, plays from a backed up disk folder too (AnyDVD from xbox HD-DVD).

I tested the Nero HDDVD plugin on my D950 3,4 Ghz Dualcore
XP PC with MSI 7600GT HDCP G.Card.
I played some backuped HDDVD movies from harddisc.
The CPU load is much to high.With hardware acceleration on
it's 95 to 100 percent and the picture is stuttering all the time.
When i play the same files with PWDVD 7.3 the CPU load is
from 35 to 50 percent!
The XBOX HDDVD drive is working with Nero Showtime but
of course the same stuttering with much to high CPU load.
Also the Color banding is the same as with PWDVD !
At the moment it doesn't play BluRay Discs.
The backuped BluRay m2ts files can be played and if it's mpeg2
the picture is smooth and CPU load is low.About 10 to 25 percent.
With h.264/AVC m2ts files it's the same stuttering and to high
CPU load as with VC1 HDDVD files.
Are there similar experiences ore maybe there is something wrong with my installation?

The system I have working (the other two seem to have install issues, such as unregistered modules so I have to find the time to do a full uninstall etc) then playback is completely smooth.

CPU : oc'd Athlon X2 AM2 4200+ at 2520MHz and 687HT
RAM : DDR2 2GB ~ 750MHz 5-5-5-12
HD : Seagate 7.2krpm Perpendicular
OS : Vista x64 Ultimate
Graphics : 8800GTS 640MB standard 101.41 beta driver

Using hardware acceleration most usage is in the low to mid 40% on both cores. Odd spike up to 60% worst. Problem is that nVidias vista drivers for their flagship product are frankly disgusting. I'm sure there could be better acceleration but right now it just crashes after a while (Vista recovers and showtime doesn't go down).

With hardware turned off usage is more high 50% with spikes up to 80% but still completely smooth so I wonder if your system needs a clean install, or if Ahead haven't optimised for the old Netburst cores in your CPU.

If I get get Nero registered correctly on my laptop I'll report back (Core Duo , not Core2, with X1600 Pro mobile). The CPU should be similar to my X2 but will be interesting to see if ATI's avivo does better under vista. Not much can be worse than nVidia under that platform for sure.

I installed Nero again on a clean base but the result
is the same.Still much to high CPU load.
There are reports about to high CPU loads with older Dualcores
and Nero HDDVD in other forums too.
So it could be your explanation about not optimised support for Netburst cores in older CPUs.
I installed Nero on my 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo T7200 Notebook
with 2 Gb Ram and Ati x1700 G.Card.
But i can't playback a HDDVD with the XBox drive.
I also tried Running Scared which doesn't have Copy Protection.
The Nero Info tool says that the x1700 is not supported.
Already decrypted evo files are not working too.

I've had no luck on either of my ATI systems so it may be a driver/nero issue. One is XP with X1300, the other Vista 32 with X1600 mobile. Both still have the same issue, hardware acceleration off just crashes showtime. Acceleration on gives the "file type not supported". Very odd.
