View Full Version : Adding a second, separate video track in mp4?

I'm trying to put two different videos in a mp4 container, but I don't get it to work the way I want.

I want to add a small separate videotrack/slideshow to my otherwise normal mp4, containing video, audio and chapters. But when switching to the slideshow video, the audio (which belongs to the main video track) is heard, and I would like it to be silent. The slideshow is in higher resolution than the main video, and all files are mp4 created with x264 for video, and nero digital audio.

Using mp4box I've tried to append and add the tracks together in different order and configurations, but it always ends up in the described way (if not worse...). Is it at all possible to do what I want? Must I make a silent audio track and link it to the slideshow in some way? Ideally the timecode would show for the shorter video also when switching to it, but that's maybe up to the playback filter (Haali)?

its only possible with mpeg-4 systems. for a newbie its not easy to do and you would need to use a mpeg-4 systems capable player to play the file (and 99% of the mp4 players out there are not)

so, its doable, but hard

Ok, thanks for answering. Looking at mkvmerge I can't see it's possible to make it work there either. I can link different separate files to eachother to make them play in order, but not within the mkv-file itself, like to have this short video play after the main video silently. Sigh, I have to do it in another way I guess...
