Problems with mp2 audio

I'm having some trouble with mp2 audio. When I try to play certain mpg video files with WMP or demux the audio with TMPGEnc, there is no audio. However, other programs like Media Player Classic and VLC are able to recognize and play the sound.

I have ffdshow installed. Normally when I try to play a problem mpg file with WMP it plays the video but no audio. When I go into ffdshow's audio filter configuration and change mp2 from "mp3lib" to "disabled", then WMP is not able to play the file at all--it shows me the first frame but doesn't move from there.

I have no idea why it is able to play the audio for some mpg files but not others. I found a page on microsoft's site that has some sample audio and video files. The url is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/Q316992#17

I tried playing the problem video files with various programs and this is what I found.

Plays the video and audio:
Media Player Classic
VLC
Nero Showtime
iTunes
PowerDVD

No audio:
WMP
TMPGEnc
AviSynth
RealPlayer


Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

These next two were taken from the same digital camera. I have a whole bunch of videos like these, but I figure they should have the same specs so there's no real need to post info for more than 2 of them. WMP used to be able to play the audio on these, but now it can't and I'm not sure what changed.

The problem regarding the last two is probably related to the remarkable indicated video bitrate of 80,000Kbps (I read this 3 times to make sure I wasn't adding an extra "0")...

But of that 80,000 Kbps, 79,904 Kbps is devoted to video (correct?), and WMP is able to play the video and TMPGEnc is able to recognize the video. My problem is with the audio, so it seems to me that the bitrate of the file should not be the source of the trouble.

I looked into the 80,000 kbps thing, and I discovered something interesting. For the first of the two 80,000 clips, the clip is 30 seconds long and the file is 5.86 MB. That should work out to be about 1600 kbps. I found a similar disparity for the 2nd one. Very strange...
