Hiya,
I just read:
"What is the MPAA doing if they can't sneak in the broadcast flag into legislation? Sneak it into digital broadcast specs. With a little help from our friends in Hollywood, the DVB consortium has devised a new scheme called "Content Protection and Copy Management" - CPCM. It's goal is simple: turn off the ability to record digital content and restrict playback of recorded content to authorized devices"
For me as a potential customer (I do buy video data still! Albeit not as much as I used to, due to several reasons ...) I find these tactics of the MPAA really disturbing. To say the least.
If they cant lobby into the law they want, they control specs and force others to join their boat. That sucks!
I even read here that they tried to lobby down on Australia and somewhere else, pointing out that the DMCA provisioned them with the law they tried to implement - although that was a lie. Anyways ...
But from an analyzing point of view, it looks like a feasible strategy. Anyone knows of other strategies applied by MPAA? (Its why I started the thread, to amaze me more) :>
