View Full Version : 5.1ch AAC -> 5.1ch AC3 with Foobar and Aften?

Hey everyone,

So, I'm trying to transcode a 5.1ch AAC (encoded with Nero CLI) to 5.1ch AC3 @ 384kbps. I can play the AAC (both in its raw form and in an MP4 container) with Foobar, but when I try to decode it to a WAV using Foobar, not all of the file is decoded. Total length is ~ 1:42:40, and when decoded to WAV is only ~ 1:02:00.

Ideally, I would be able to load the AAC source into Foobar, right click, and convert to Aften AC3 directly using pipes.

Maybe there's a better workflow?

Thanks

If your wav file is 6.6 Gb you have a 48 KHz, 32 bits, 1:42:40 length wav.

If is 4 GB then your wav have 1:02:08, but I don't think so.

Ideally, I would be able to load the AAC source into Foobar, right click, and convert to Aften AC3 directly using pipes.

First time you use Aften (isn't in Preset list) you need configure a new preset clicking at (...) button and fill the data:
Encoder: yourpath\aften.exe
Extension: ac3
Parameters: -v 0 -readtoeof 1 -b 384 - %d
Format is: lossy
Highest BPS mode supported: 32
Encoder name: Aften
Bitrate (kbps): 384
Settings:

Of course you need Aften encoder (rev449 at least) and can use the desired Parameters. The -readtoeof 1 parameter is needed to read more than the 4 Gb wav limit.

Nice.

I had the parameters wrong... I've never used Aften before.

Well, it's working now with a limiter in the DSP chain to clean things up.

Thanks!!

Just make sure not to use DIRS like "D:\AFTEN_ENC\aften.exe", it will not work.
This "D:\AFTEN\aften.exe" works. These are for fb2k.
