View Full Version : MeGUI: newbie question

Hi, everybody

Usually I use GK to encode DVD's to XviD.
Recently I read in the forums that MeGUI may be also good software for encodes.

However, I never used MeGUI, so I don't know how it works. So my question:
Is it uses my existing VFW codecs (e.g. XviD, DivX)? Or is it installs codecs by its own?

Thanks in advance,
Irakli

It uses command-line software entirely, and unless you output to avi (available for xvid only), the files it makes will be totally incompatible with vfw.

Can command-line software potentially cause conflicts with VFW codecs, if I have both installed?

Thanks,

No, it has nothing to do with the vfw subsystem and won't change it in anyway. (Even the xvidcore.dll is self-contained in the megui folder.)
