I'm after some cheap dual-layer DVDs, cause I'm a student and need to back up my DVDs 1 to 1, no quality loss. Some I have that fit onto a DVD-5 are fine. However, there are some 2 hour movies I have that are 5 to 6 GB, and more for the concert ones I have.
However, my eagle eyes at my local Maplin store across the road have noticed that Verbatim Dual-Layer discs are expensive (£20 for 5 discs!), and I'm not willing to spend that much. At most £15 for a cake of 10 discs. (I'm tight, OK?! ;)). I don't need them individual, since I have cases and sleeves.
If anybody can recommend good reliable brands I can look out for, that'd be helpful. :)

Hi!
If you read the myriad related posts at this and other forums, you'll see that, thusfar, Verbatim D/L DVD+Rs have been and are the ONLY consistently reliable D/L media.
If, as you've indicated, they are beyond your budget, you can always split your backups onto two S/L DVDs...
However, there are some 2 hour movies I have that are 5 to 6 GB, and more for the concert ones I have.Try compressing these with DVD Shrink or DVD Rebuilder, so that they also fit on DVD5s...

I'm after a 1-1 DVD rip, and I know DVD Shrink and DVD Rebuilder re-compress. ;) Verbatim aren't exactly outta my budget, but I've not seen them in cake form at the moment. Can you point me?

Verbatim aren't exactly outta my budget, but I've not seen them in cake form at the moment. Can you point me?Unfortunately, no - I'm on the other side of the pond, where they're typically on sale in 10 packs or 20 packs at "Best Buy", for as little as $1.50US per disc...

www.svp.co.uk has them. As do just about all the other online media retailers.

Not sure about that,
I always use Mitsubishi DL Disc for DL backup. So far it is the perfect one, even of course very expensive for my budget. There is some cheaper one like Nice from China, but not sure about its quality.

I purchased a 25-pack of GQ brand disks (ID'd as RICOHJPN-D00-01) that have actually worked well so far. They were $1 US per disk on sale at the time.
Edit: Never mind, I had pulled one from the spindle to get the media code, and when I was putting it away after my post I noticed that the next one down on the spindle already shows signs of the reflective material separating.
