View Full Version : another question about menu encoding and OPV

Hi,

I just wanted to know what factor determines the reduction of the menu if 'enable menu encoding' is selected...

for example it is possible to choose the reduction level for extras, say by 25% - are the menus treated as extras in that case and get reduced by 25% of quality? Or what determines the quality of menus after encoding them?

and my second question about OPV - here I have to apologize because I know this question did get ask some when but I couldn't find the post(s) anymore...

within DVD-RB it is possible to choose self selected Quantization Matrices.

are these values are considered during OPV encoding or does CCE select its own (default) matrices?

thanks for your reply.

The selectable matrices are not used during OPV encoding. That's because it makes the prediction virtually impossible and you get crazy over/undersizing. Also -- it's not possible to set the matrix based upon bitrate -- because the bitrate will be whatever is determined to be needed by the specified Q value (other than maximum, no bitrate is called out).

thank you...

and what about the menu encoding? if I select it about what factor does a menu get reduced? If I select e.g. 25% for extras reduction is a menu considered as an "extra" and is reduced by the same level of 25% or is every menu reduced by a general reduction level of 5%, for example?...

Sill, I'm wondering why you haven't posted in your home forum. :D

The menu will not be treated as a extra but also a little different as the feature in your combination.
To stay with your example, the reduction might be 60% as "Reduction Level for DVD-5"
Your reductions:
1. Feature: 60% + saved bitrate from 2.
2. Extras: 45%
3. Menu: 60%

Was it that difficult? ;)
At the end of prepare phase you'll get a message telling you e.g.
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 52.4%
- Overall Bitrate : 1,855Kbs
- Space for Video : 3,035,452KB
- Movie improvement from extra reduction = 17.4%
52.4% will be the reduction level for your menu as well.

As you have checked "Steal Space from Extras" mode (25%) your extras will be reduced to 39.3% (52.4 minus 25%).
Movie improvement from extra reduction is dependent on how many extras you have. ;)
In the above extreme example it would be 61.5% (52.4 + 17.4%).
Alles klar jetzt? :p

You can by the say set the reductions to your preferred values with the video segment editor (new style marked) after prepare phase.
