I ran a search on asf and it didn't turn up what I was looking for so I'll post it here. My understanding is that ASF is advaced streaming format and includes WMV, WMA and DVR-MS. Does VC-1 content also fall into the ASF category?
I'm getting a request for VC-1 content in the .asf container. Can I safely rename a VC-1 encoded WMV to .asf and call the job done, or do I need to jump through some other hoops to do this?
Thanks in advanced to anyone who has the answer.

Yes, if the VC-1 file has a .wmv extension.

.wmv = .asf

but

vc-1 is a video encoding standard, not a container format (like .wmv/asf)
