Hi, people...

I have read over 20 posted problems about this, but I didn't find an answer...

I tried everything what people write her that can be a problem, but nothing help me...

This is the detailed problem:
I use Gordian Knot v0.35.0 + Koepi's XviD Codec v1.1.2 (Final) to rip my DVD to AVI (XviD) on 2 CDs with AC3 sound... I set output size to 1400 MB with checked option for splitting on 2 CDs at the end of ripping process, but when job been finished, Total File Size of output AVI file is only 559 Mb (418 MB of AC3 sound + 141 MB of video)!??
When I tried to reinstall "old" XviD codec (v1.1.2) and install "new" Koepi's XviD Codec v1.2 [25.02.2006], everything is the same, nothing been fixed...

I'm beginner with Gordian Knot and I use "GKnot ILLUSTRATED GUIDE (DVDtoAVI) v.13 by dap & js.pdf" to learn to use this program (earlier I used Auto Gordian Knot, but now I want try to get better quality of DivX movies that I ripping from my original DVDs)!

Please help me, good people!

If log file is needed, i will post (I can't post now because of 16000 characters limit :) )!??

Make sure you uninstall Xvid before installing a different build.

Make sure under the Xvid settings within Gordian Knot that you have selected unrestricted under Profile @ Level.

Make sure that you've selected the proper AC3 file on the Bitrate tab under Audio settings, and that you select "Just Mux" on the final audio selection screen before starting the encode.

Thanks man, very much, I will try everythig that You say (although I already tried everything except second item - with selecting unrestricted under Profile @ Level)...

Thank You, very much, I succeed!!!

Problem was in unrestricted under Profile @ Level, like You said CWR03... Thanks!
Previously I was worked with "Simple @ LO" under "Profile @ Level" and that was a problem (I read in "GKnot ILLUSTRATED GUIDE (DVDtoAVI) v.13 by dap & js.pdf" for beginners that "Profile @ Level" need to set on "Simple @ LO", and that was wrong in my case)...

Can somebody tell me what mean "(unrestricted)" setting under "Profile @ Level"??? As I know, "Simple @ LO" is for better compatibility, but what fault/privilege is between this two settings!? When is good to use "Simple @ LO" (or some other option under "Profile @ Level"), but that output file had been normal?

Most people use Advanced Simple @ L5, which is just one step lower than the unrestricted one, so they guide you were reading was either bad or had some hardware (except your PC) compatibility in mind. If you play the encodes on your PC, then go for AS @ L5 or the unrestricted, and everything will be fine.

Standalone players or iPOD compatibility demands lower, more restricted profiles. so maybe the guide was aiming at this matter (?). This way or the other, if you don't own a SAP, selecting anything other than AS @ L5 or the unrestricted doesn't make any sense IMO.

@ CWR03 - good diagnosis. :)

Thanks very much for this detailed explanation...
This guide that I used is not bad, they explain that Profile @ Level is used for better compatibility, as You mention above...
Anyway, I fixed my problem (thanks to CWR03) and I'm happy now :)
One more, thank You, HeadBangeR77...

Hey ;)

Have a look ...here... (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-xvid.html) and see how much you were missing by using "Simple @ LO".

PS. Glad, I could help. :)

I now understand... :)

The "Simple @ L0" is not my idea, I read that in some guide...

You opened my eyes! :thanks:

Guess i should use the post for my problem.

I'm about to lose my mind...

I've been using Gordian Knot & XviD 1.2 for bout the last 6 months now without any trouble at all...

Then suddently last night it started making a my rips 80-100 mb bigger then the size i want (with unrestricted) then i saw this post and tried the solution you guys came up with and tryed (Advanced Simple @ L5) but then it made the rips 80-100 mb smaller then the size i wanted.

I havn't installed any new software or added any new hardware to my pc latly and for the likes of me i just can't seem to find the problem...

Anybody else able to???

AutoGK makes the rips in the right size for some reason but i really don't wanna go back to that....

Did you double-check your audio settings? If you leave the encoding window set to indicate a 128kb/s MP3 but you mux in AC3 audio, you'll get oversized files.
