View Full Version : I have AviSynth 2.5 installed: Need to uninstall before installing free DVD-RB?

Hi,
Newbie question here... I'm getting ready to install the full free version of DVD-RB (looks great!) and noticed that it comes packaged with AviSynth.
I also noticed that I already have AviSynth 2.5 on my computer (probably from the install of AutoGK). So I'm wondering:
1. Do I need to uninstall AviSynth on my computer before installing the full DVD-RB -- or will it recognize that I already have it?
2. Is the version of AviSynth that comes with DVD-RB Ver2.5 or higher?
3. I'm guessing I shouldn't have separate installs of AviSynth on my computer at the same time (?), but if I have to uninstall the one I already have, will that mess up my AutoGK program?
Of course, if it's the same 2.5 version and it *will* recognize that I have it (or just write itself over it), then I'll be all set. But I want to make sure how that will work before installing DVD-RB. Thanks for the help! Can't wait to get crackin'! :)

You do not need to uninstall AviSynth, the version that comes with DVD-RB is 2.5 (I think),
Enjoy.

Thanks for the reply. So what does it do when you already have it installed? Does it recognize that you already have it and doesn't bother to install it, even though you're doing the full install?

Yes. That's purposeful so it doesn't interfere with anything else you may have installed.

Okey-doke -- thanks! I'm off to install, leaving my AviSynth 2.5 installed and doing the full install of DVD-RB. :)

To be more clear it's version 2.56

So is that most likely what I've got on my computer? When I did the install of DVD-RB, it didn't prompt me anything for installing or updating AviSynth.

The installer checks if AviSynth is already installed, it will not overwrite your installed version if there is one.
If you want to check which version you're currently running, open an editor insert
version()
and save it as test.avs
You can open this file in VirtualDub or with right-click and "open with", here you can chose Media Player Classic etc.

Made the file, but I don't have any program to open it with... :(
I'd rather not download another program just to read this file. Any suggestions?

You don't have any software player?

None, apparently, that will open that file. My WMP is too "new" and Roxio player won't open it. But the documentation that is in the same folder as the AviSynth files mentions 2.56, so I'm assuming that's the version I have. (?)

My WMP is too "new"
I don't understand what this means but this
AviSynth files mentions 2.56sounds good, so forget the AviSynth thing, you should be on the safe side. :)

Hello! :)
Using Avisynth 2.5.6a (2005-10-28) or Avisynth 2.5.7 (2007-01-07) with DVD-RB Pro 1.22
I hope its' OK I'm buttin in here?
Trying to learn more about Avisynth use and went
to sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023)
and downloaded version AviSynth 2.5.7 and installed.
Question is if this latest version will cause any
probs with DVD-RB pro 1.22 since version 2.5.6 is
installed by default? Just wanna make shure I'm not
causing problems using this new Avisynt 2.5.7 release.
If there's no problems with using 2.5.7 what are
the benefits of using it? Reading and trying to
understand Avisynth changelog at sourceforge...
and have to admit I didn't... :o
Thanks...

It's always best to use the version installed with DVD Rebuilder. But if you want you can use the latest version of Avisynth. Just be careful. If it works fine for you it's ok I guess.

@linx05
OK! :) Think I'll get back to 2.5.6 then,
don't wanna spoil my upcoming projects.
Is it possible to have both versions and
point DVD-RB pro 1.22 to only use 2.5.6?
Thanks...

I don't think it is possible to have two versions of AVS installed simultaneously.
