Recording/Capturing an area of a video

Hi all..

The idea I have requires my to capture various areas from certain videos I have but i've already tried a video-capture program called Camtasia Studio but whilst playing back what i've recorded I can only see a black screen and it only shows the mouse cursor.

Would somebody be able to tell me if I have to tweak something or maybe if somebody knows of a program that will deffinately allow me to do it?

Try turning off hardware acceleration...
