Look, these seem to me like they would be very common questions so I've had a pretty good look through the tutorials and FAQs and other posts on these forums, but for the life of me, I can't find anything - all I find is this complicated complex stuff that I have no use for. That said, I appologise if this stuff has been covered elsewhere and I've just missed it.

1. All I want to do is convert some .vob files to MPEG-4 so that I can play them on my iPod video or just from the PC. Can anybody outline the process and/or recommend to me the best program/s that will do this for me while maintaining high quality picture and audio? Also, what program do you guys recommend for editing video (patching video files together and splitting into separate files)?

2. The second thing I'd like to do is extract the audio from some .vob files in .mp3 or .wav format. Again, I'd be grateful if anybody could tell me the process and/or the best software I need to do this without losing any sound quality.

Yeah I'm a n00b at this stuff, so I'm sorry if I piss anyone off with my stupid questions. I did try looking and searching first though...

Thanks guys!!

Hi,

As for your first query regarding ipod, try Avidemux tool it has all the options, just encode selecting the mp4 format, video:x264 audio:faac and keep the video and audio bitrate below 400bkps and 64kbps, keep resolution between 320x240 and 640x480 though it supports 640x480@1.5mbps but it will be a waste.

The second query is easy, just use VirtualDubMod for saving the ac3 audio to wav from vob file. Or you can use Besweet to directly save to mp3 :)
