View Full Version : Using new XVID version with GKnot

Hi,
I tried using XviD v1.1.2-01112006 with gordianknot 0.35, but when I try to set the options for 1st and 2nd pass in the preferences tab, nothing happened when I pressed the 1st or 2nd pass buttons, does that mean gknot only works with the xvid version that comes with GK CodecPack v1.9?
Thank you

Impossible - I've been using the 1.1.2 Koepi's build with GK since it was released in November (IIRC). No problems here at all.
The best thing you can do is to reinstall your GK and XviD (installing over the previously used version isn't recommended). You should also update DGDecode /DGIndex to the latest 1.4.9 beta14, which works like charm for me.

HeadBangeR77 is correct, it will work with Gordian Knot. Uninstall Xvid, delete the xvid.ax, xvidvfw.dll and xvidcore.dll, then reinstall Xvid.

I tried everything, xvid v1.1.2 just won't show up, not even in the compression filters in the virtualdub version that comes with gknow, although I can set the encoder options via xvid's start menu shortcuts. Even if I just go ahead and start the encode job, gknot quits the job with an error when starting the video encode.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling Gordian Knot. Make sure to uncheck the XviD installer when you reinstall it.

That's really weird, because I know many people (here in the forums and not only) who use GK (0.35.0-Setup2) with XviD 1.1.2 without any problems. It's the first time I hear about such an issue.
What do you mean by everything (excuse I'm asking again)? Including uninstalling both GK and XviD, restarting (never harms), and installing both again?
@ CWR03 - excuse me, I didn't see your post, 'cause I don't refresh my browser too often. Does GK comes with XviD in one bundle really? (I can't recall atm).
@ prOnorama (I really like your nickname :D):
Yeah, searching in the depths of my hdd resulted in discovering the mentioned Codec Pack - IIRC it contains some older XviD (1.0.3?), DivX 5.2.1 and few other things.

I think there's a GK Rip Pack and a GK Codec Pack (obviously the GK Codec pack only has the XviD codec)
By the way XviD 1.1.2 works fine for me also in GK 0.35 ;)

hey, thanks so much for taking the time to reply. To be very precise, I use GordianKnot.RipPack.0.35.0.Setup.2.exe with Gordian.Knot.Codec.Pack.1.9.Setup.exe. I uninstalled gknot and the codec pack completely, then installed the rip pack, when installing the codec pack, I unchecked xvid and ffdshow, then I restarted the system, installed XviD 1.1.2, restarted the system, tried to access xvid settings via gknot, nothing happened, whereas thoses settings are again available via the xvid startmenu shortcuts, I don't know, I guess I'm just unlucky.

Your last sentence seems to sum the thing up, unfortunately. I haven't got a clue what more could be done. Does the other codecs (DivX, x264 VfW) are accessible through GK configuration window? Plz try the normal VirtualDub (1.7.1 is the latest) as the last hope.
Is the 1.1.2 XviD's version the official Koepi's build? Some Celtic Druid's builds have some dlls missing, but that affects decoding AFAIR. Nothing more comes to my head atm, sorry.

PS. What OS do you have?

Yes, but it's a pretty old version.
then installed the rip pack,
As I said, when you uninstall/reinstall Gordian Knot, whether it's the codec pack or the rip pack, uncheck Xvid during the reinstall. Now that you've uninstalled and reinstalled Gordian Knot, try again to uninstall/delete files/reinstall Xvid and test it. If this fails, uninstall the Gordian Knot codec pack, reinstall it with Xvid unchecked, then install Xvid 1.1.2.

Hi again,
First off, I cheated when I posted this question, I didn't mention my OS, see, I can't afford to have my main XP machine tied up even for 2 hour encodes so I use a seperate PC for encodes and it runs '98. I'm embarassed to mention that because last time I did somewhere else, I was flamed for running an OS, albeit old, that I'd actually paid for and that still gets the job done.
Anyway, the xvid version that came with gknot codec pack added an entry " vidc.XVID=xvidvfw.dll " in 98 under the [drivers32] section in system.ini, whereas the newer 1.1.2 Koepi's build did not, which was why the newer version did not show up in gknot as well as any other video editor, I manually added the entry and now 1.1.2 works like a charm. Thanks to all who replied.
My problem's solved, mods may close the topic if they wish.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I haven't seen here any flaming because of somebody's choice of OS (heated discussion on OSes in general, yes, but that's totally different thing). ;)
Btw. derived of all bells & whistles, Win2k seems to be the best choice for encoding.

All the people complaining about a mess in their registry, or some junk left after unistalling different applications, should recall the days of Win98 and ME. :D That was a REAL MESS. Since you didn't mention the OS, such an issue can't have come to me mind - XviD is pretty clean in such terms.
