Hi , i've been searching this forum and other places for an answer or help regarding this, the situation is i have a pc standing as a server and do not have screen or keyboard, but i want to encode videos with it.

Has anyone else any experience with this?

x264 just errors if i try to encode through RD, but if i hook up a screen and starts it it works flawlessly.

You may want to take a look at this thread:

I am not sure that you can effectively encode videos via RD, but again, I am not sure.

Thanks merlin, i've already looked at both ,but i would very much like to just use RD if it is possible.

Anyone else know ?

I have the same situation with my living room PC: its set up as a server with no keyboard. I've fooled around with running lots of different stuff on it remotely...

Bad news: alot of programs didn't like it all. Granted, some of the programs probably just didn't like Server 2003.

Worked fine:
DVD Decrypter
ImgBurn
Daemon Tools
PgcEdit

Didn't work:
uTorrent
Gknot
A few others I can't remember...

Whoa! Just had an idea:
As an emergency work around, does the video card on your server have an S-Video out? If so, plug in a S-Video-To-Composite RCA adapter into it. The video card might recognize that as a TV even without a TV plugged into it.

My server has an integrated gfx intel945, i run winxp pro on it, but i can run utorrent and lots of other prgs without issues , its only video related edit programs and megui which is no go :( . anyway thanks for ideas.

I RDP into my VistaMC server machine for lots of things, and none have failed. At what point does MeGUI fail? When it starts a particular job? I was thinking of trying it out for a couple x264 encodes...

I use TightVNC to control other desktops from my laptop. Only problem is it doesn't play nice with .NET proggies. All other applications worked just fine.

Of course, videos which use overlay are not displayed...

Only problem is it doesn't play nice with .NET proggies. And that explains why apparently you can't use megui in such a scenario. It's due to non fault of any of the programmers but a limitation of the framework used.
