after trying MPC using its internal mpeg2 decoder (I guess that's what it is. The Filters menu just says "MPEG2 Video decoder") and many other supposedly better decoders, like dscaler and nvidia purevideo, I frankly can't see any difference in quality. Is there a difference or am I just blind. If anything, the internal decoder is most problem and glitch free. My CPU is fast enough to handle ANY mpeg2 so h/w acceleration is a non issue.

The internal MPEG2 decoder of MPC is really good. I've already tested a few MPEG2 decoders, but I never found something so simple, so good. FFDShow, per example, still have some problems with some DVDs (in fact there's no official support), but the quality is fine. PureVideo, AFAIK, seems to be a good one.

IMO you won't find much difference in terms of image quality. The hole thing seems to envolve more things like compatibilities and performance.
