Hi I am trying to do an XviD of a DVD.
DGIndex says:

Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Frame rate: 29.970
Video Type: NTSC
Frame Type: Progressive

But if I watch the video there is some interlace.
Looks like the NTSC was deinterlaced.
Here is a sample:

I decided to go for the "Honor pulldown flags" option and save the d2v file.

When I open it in Gordian Knot, after cropping I get a 2.026 AR.
I've been reading the forums but I don't quite get a right answer for this rip.

Is IVTC a good thing to do here? If so, how should I set it up?
Should I change frame rate to 23.976?
The 2.026 AR doesn't look right, any suggestion?

Thanks :D

Does DGIndex say 100% film, or close to it? Then skip honor and just force film.

ARs can vary all over the place, depending on the director. 1.66, 1.83, and 2.15 are just generic standards, but film can be cropped in infinitely many ways. Especially with cropping, which can throw it off.

foxyshadis: DGIndex says: NTSC type.
Force FILM isn't ok here.

Looks like someone did a very bad deinterlacing leaving some combed frames and then they resized it. That means your task is hopeless. It's very bad quality anyway. Try to find better source.

This guide: (http://www.rita.lt/guides/GKnot_MPEG2toAVI.htm)
1) Is outdated;
2) I can't agree with many of the statements there;

but it gives a rather clear explanation on using ForceFilm.
I've got few NTSC 29.970 DVDs, mostly 16:9 widescreen Hollywood's productions, which are showed as progressive, 99%/100% FILM, and have visible interlacing artefacts while previewing with DGIndex. Forcing film has always worked like charm with them (they've been soft telecined).

PS. Gee, I haven't refreshed my browser again. My post is actually useless here. :o

I have run into some very bad sources that are NTSC 29.97 progressive. They were shot on miniDV 60i (XL-1) (I know the filmmaker and chastised him for his silly behavior), and he deinterlaced it in Final Cut Pro (hahahaha). The result was hideous!!
