The encoder behind XtoDVD?

I've seen many comparisons between some of the more heavy-hitter encoders like TMPGenc and others, but I'm curious to know which encoders do the heavy lifting behind the scenes in ConvertXtoDVD, Nero's MPG-2 encoders, and other similar "1-click" solutions.

Or, do these simpler programs use their own? I like what I see in ConvertXtoDVD and from what others report, but I'd rather use a tried and true encoder like TPMGenc if the results are better. Thanks...

You know, whatever they use, it's not too bad IMO.

It's very very fast, and the quality is acceptable. It's not great, but it's nice to burn a 2 hours of TV shows that I've captured in less than an hour and be able to watch them in the living room. Unless I sit close I can't tell the difference (analog -> Xvid cq3 sources)

It is Libavcodec --> FFmpeg, Mencoder, et al

Yeah, I like ConvertXtoDVD as well for fast encodes that don't need the tlc treatment. I recommend it a lot to people who want a decent all-in-one app.

amazes me how many apps use libavcodec.

The thing that's really handy about ConvertXtoDVD is that it basically accepts any input format. Even my Matroska with H.264 and AAC encodes it takes without complaint. And the little menu builder is very handy too!

I liked to use ConvertDivxToDVD but when i came to know about OPV encoding.... i always use OPV now, its a little bit slower than ConvertDivxToDVD :)
