I'm still not sure how to determine Q levels / Q values (which, I assume, is the same as Q factor). I've experimented using RB-Opt to do an analysis to show A) the original Q factor, and B) the possible Q factors using different matrixes.

A possible scenario:

Assuming the original Q factor (as analyzed by RB-Opt) was 37, I got something like 31 using the standard DVD-RB main feature matrix, and 11 using AVAMAT6 (I think).

I would then skip the RB-Opt part and from scratch do a 4 pass CCE VBR encode using AVAMAT6. Does this scenario sound sensible, or am I totally ignorant as to what I'm doing here?

I guess my question boils down to something like: Is the Q factor meant to be as low as possible (without introducing artifacts)?
