hi, we are using rb-pro 1.20.4 with cce, and i was wondering what the best approach would be if i wanted to do a full backup but only compress everything EXCEPT the main movie. i want to leave the main movie uncompressed and compress everything else accordingly, but i don't think dvd-rb alone gives me the option, so what are the steps i would need to achieve this?
also, i use dvd shrink for analyzing compression ratios with the reauthor feature, but it fails to open many new dvds. what similar programs are there that i can use to analyze compression ratios depending on what i leave in or take out?

clonedvd shows some similar approach. You can remove and see the compressability with an easy green yellow and red bar. You can try and remove stuff first with clonedvd and then encode with rebuilder. This is not really needed. You can just remove with rebuilder also. Clonedvd has a crappy transcoder dont ever try to use it other than to remove some stuff if needed. Also Clonedvd doesnt see every single thing as removable. It fails to see VIDEO_TS and doesnt let u remove it.
Vobblanker does that also showing the space you have saved versus original space. Vobblanker is great removing unnecessary stuff. But sometimes you end up with buttons not showing in old stand-alone players. Nero recode could be use to compress menus and leave original intact it has that option. Nero two passes is better than clonedvd transcoder. As always nothing is better for encoding than dvd-rb encoders.
Use all other tools with caution you could end up with something that dvd-rb could end up not handling that well.

First of all, update your version of DVD Rebuilder. The latest is 1.22.
As far as I know the only way to do this is if you do a prepare first, then open up Preview/Edit. In the Feature VTS, click on each one and enable "No reencode". Then you will only have to adjust the extra features so it won't go over the limit of a single layer DVD.

wait, what do i have to adjust? AFAIK dvd-rb will re-encode to fit to a dvd-5; i set the main title to no re-encoding and i ran it; main movie is the same and extras came out looking like crap, just what i needed... what else did i need to adjust?

and does half d1 make it look better at high compression?

There would no little room left on the DVD to put the extras on that is why they are compressed so much which makes them look bad. They probably don't even have a high bitrate.

It may.
