View Full Version : Create a compilation DVD of short clips from films?

Hello,

I need to perform a presentation where I show 3 or 4 minute clips from about 4 or 5 different films.

I don't want to waste time loading and unloading different DVDs during the presentation, rather, I'd like to create a compilation DVD that simply contains the scenes I need seperated as different chapters.

Will it be a problem if some of my source DVDs are PAL, and others NTSC? The player I will use for the presentation can play both, but can a single DVD actually hold both PAL and NTSC content at the same time?

I am wondering what the best method is to do this?

Ideally I'll be able to show one clip, then press skip go to the next chapter to start the next clip. If this isn't possible, then if it plays one clip, then returns to a menue so I can select the next clip would be OK.

How exactly do I author a DVD with short clips like this?

I have Nero 7, and DVD Decrypter for ripping.

I am sorry if this post is in the wrong forum, I usually only post here regarding H.264.

Thank you

What is the best way to convert a vob from NTSC to PAL, so that I can make a PAL only DVD? I have a dual core CPU, and don't mind waiting.

I am just extracting the chapters that I require for the clips, so it shouldn't take too long.

Just do a simple search you can find articles on that easily, here is one of them:

Nero Vision seems to convert from PAL to NTSC OK, so I'm using that to convert all the PAL clips, then using the NTSC clips as is.

I read some of that thread, but it didn't make things any clearer.

There is no need to convert PAL to NTSC since your player can play both. The requirement is that each clip must be in different titlesets; in other words, you cannot mix PAL and NTSC clips together. Check your dvd player's display setting that it can display both.

The referenced link by BigCondor in second post already tells you that. Use DVDShrink in Reauthor mode to add in your clip. Each clip will be in a separate titleset, and you can press Next to go to the next clip.

Check your dvd player's display setting that it can display both. The DVD player used for the lecture isn't mine. It is a Sony that seems to play NTSC and PAL fine.

I don't have easy access to that player until the day of the lecture, so I just want to make the most compatible DVD possible, which my guess means making a DVD with files that are only in one format. Only one of my clips is from a PAL DVD, so it seems easier converting that one clip to NTSC, rather than 7 or so NTSC clips to PAL (which I couldn't get to work anyway). Use DVDShrink in Reauthor mode to add in your clip. Each clip will be in a separate titleset, and you can press Next to go to the next clip. Do you mean it will play all the clips in a row?

Is it possible to a start menu with say two items (titles?) so then I select the first and it will play say 5 clips in a row, but after it will go back to the main menu. Then later I can select the second item, which has the second lot of clips?

This would be ideal, cos I need to show 1 lot of clips, then talk about them, then show the 2nd lot of clips.

Do you mean it will play all the clips in a row?Yes. You can press Next but not Previous without manual navigational adjustment.

Then later I can select the second item, which has the second lot of clips? It's possible, but not with NeroVision or TMPGEnc DVD Author. DVDLab (Pro) is able to do this, but I'm not sure how comfortable you are with this product.
