GOP Errors with DVICO FusionMeg2 Box

I have been using a DVICO FusionMeg2 Box for over a year now to capture analogue sources.

I have also used Womble to edit the resulting capture and then Nerovision Express 3 to author DVDs from these edited files.

Up till about two months ago I had no problems with this process. But now I am getting GOP errors in the captured files. I can use Womble's GOP Fixer to fix the errors, but the final resulting DVD has noticeable jumps in the picture from time to time.

My question is - why are these GOP errors now happening?

I have re-installed the software and de-fragmented the disks but the problem persists.

It doesn't matter how long the capture is - 1 minute still has GOP errors!

can anyone help please ???

Your term "GOP error" has no standard meaning. What do you mean by it?

Can you post a small clip that we can analyze to see the nature of the error?

I will have to do that later - I don't have access to the PC with the mpg files on it at the moment

Since this is a USB device, you may have cable or connector trouble. Check your Windows event logs, see if you get I/O errors during capture.

I tried turning the PC off and on again but could not get a "clean" capture like 1. above

I downloaded no. 2 and my decoder did not see any errors. Why do you think you need to "fix" it?

I downloaded No.1 & 2 as well. As I see it, there IS a slight glitch -osh instead of gosh in No. 2, around 1 second of time. I saw the issue with PCI versions of Hauppauge PVR cards. It seems everything is okay, even VideoRedo doesn't find anything to fix, yet there is some pause, like it did NOT write all the data to the file. I saw it particularly in two cases:
1) when there was a really hard drive activity and drive didn't catch the tempo of file being written
2) when the hard-drive itself was playing up and giving in Event Log something like "Device not ready for access" or some other errors as well. Usually the drive was physically bad

thanks for that - I will have a look at the Event Log to see if there is anything suspicious - a dodgy hard drive may explain why it has only recently started happening

How did you find the "pause" ??

Did you use some program to analyze the file ??

I have only been able to find the problems by eye-balling the final DVD

I saw the pause, too, just playing the file directly in VLC. But you asked about "GOP errors" and I didn't see any MPEG2 video errors in stream 2. To check for video errors I just play it in DGIndex and watch the Info field of the Info dialog. Decoding errors are posted there. But DGIndex does not show PTS discontinuities, so they could be present.
