hello guys
i am a bit new to dvd ripping using GKnot so i have few question...

i follow this steps to rip dvd...

1. I load the dvd in hard disk using DVDdecrypt along with RipIt4me.

2. I use DGIndex or DVD2AVI ,load the vob files ,and save the project in .d2v format.

my question is here that when i save the entire movie as .d2v project its size becomes about 800MB including sound...
but i haven't performed any compression so how could be the size so small where size of the ripped DVD is about 5GB???:scared:

now if DVD2AVI is decreasing quality then when i am converting it to XVID i am performing a compression over a low quality format???

how can i expect then to have good quality....

but i have done conversion over it using XVID...
with quantization 4 i got size 600MB
with quantization 1 i got size 2500MB

but i can't see any quality difference between them...

and more over what quality improvement might be there when i'm transforming a 800MB(from DGIndex) to 2500 MB???

I am a bit confused but i like GKnot tell me what should i do...

i have one more question that in GKnot in audio option i give LAME MP3 compression in user defined mode with surround heavy profile but i get very low sound in output.
i have to make my speaker to work in full volume to hear that...
which mode i should use???
GKnot stops working if I use 128KBps MP3 CBR or ABR. and in ac3 format no sound comes in output file.

The D2V file does not contain the audio and video. It is only a text file that points to the VOB files and contains an index of where all the frames are located within the VOB files.

That's right. You keep the Vobs until after you've completed the conversion to AVI.

Because your eyes are bad? Quant one just bloats the file size. You shouldn't have any need to ever use it.

The AC3. You're just converting to MP3 anyway, aren't you?
