VLC w/ Subtitles

Using VLC v0.8.6a (Windows binary)

What are your settings for getting nice, viewable subs in VLC? The defaults showed the text squished vertically, jaggies like never before, was in the middle of the screen, and near impossible to read.

I'd like to be able to get them to display at minimum like MPlayer, but hopefully like Vobsub.

yes subs look a lot better in mplayer i havent found a solution for that aswell, perhaps it will get fixed in the next release

In vlcPlayer you can configure your sub's font-size and positioning on the screen:

File > Open file > Use a subtitle file > Advanced settings > Subtitle options >

here on there are two choices:

1. Relative font size > (choose an option from 5 presented: smaller/small/normal/large/larger)

2. Subtitles justification > (I]choose an option from 3 presented:[/I] center/left/right)
