Ok this has happened to me with several different discs and I'm curious as to what exactly is happening. I will put a disc into my dvd burner and try to open it with ripit4me and it will start flashing "waiting for drive to be ready". It will continue to flash this for HOURS and not go any further. I have also tried opening these discs directly through dvd decrypter and after a minute the message "Device Not Ready (No Reference Position Found)" will come across the bottom of the screen and it also will go no further. This has now happened with 4 different dvd's. Any idea what the problem could be? Any insight is appreciated!

Hi!

The discs MAY have "autorun" files on them.

Try FIRST starting "RipIt4Me", selecting either "Wizard" or "1-Click" mode and THEN placing the DVD in the drive.

Are these commercial DVDs?

Wgat are the Titles and Regions?

Yes they were all commercial dvds. The two most recent discs were The Brokenhearts Club and Spider. Both are region 1 (I don't know much about regions but they both have the number 1 on the back cover with the ntsc logo above it).

I tried your suggestion (of starting RipIt4Me and starting wizard mode before inserting the disc) with no luck. I'm stuck at the same place.

These are two old DVD releases, 2001 and 2003 - and are not likely to have any Autorun files or newer/special copy protection.

Chances are the DVDs are either physically damaged or dirty, or your drive is failing.

Try cleaning the DVDs.

Try loading a newer DVD in the same drive and see if it's recognized. If it is, I'd suggest you return the two DVDs to the place of purchase in exchange for new replacements...

The dvd's look fine (no visible marks or scuffs on them) although I know looks can be deceiving. I can't return the dvd's, they're not new -I got my burner not that long ago and am trying to back up all of the movies I own.

The drive seems to pick and choose what movies it wants to recognize and when. This happened with my Inside Man dvd too but a few days later I tried it again and it worked fine. Thanks setarip it seems that all the problems I've been having keep coming back to my drive might be bad. It's less than 2 months old so I think I may try to return it and see if that is the problem.

Another question though, if the burner is the problem. I have a dvd-rom (you know a drive that will read discs but not burn them) that was took out when the dvd burner was installed. Is it possible to rip movies to my computer using that? I'm thinking that if I hook it back up and try using it to rip and it works with these discs then I will know that my burner really is the problem.

That may seem like an odd question, I just don't want to go through the hassle of trying to return the burner (and finding the box -lol) unless I'm pretty positive that it is the problem.

Just as a little update, hooked the dvd rom back up and used it to open Spider. The first thing that popped up was about it trapping an autorun button (or something along those lines) so bravo setarip! Decided to try your method again with the dvd recorder and still had no luck. Oh well. The dvd ripped fine using this dvd rom so it really must be my dvd recorder. Which is sort of a relief- I was beginning to think that all of this was a lot more work than it's worth! :-)

It certainly sounds like your burner is problematic. If it's still under warranty, you certainly should return it in exchange for a new replacement.

What is the brand and model number of the burner?

I'm sure it would have to be under warranty still. Even most stores offer at least 60-90 days and I'm sure the manufacturer should have one as well. I just have to find my paperwork.

It's a Lite-On DVDRW LH-16W1P. I've looked at the rating sites that I asked about and I can't find a single review on this particular one either. I think I'll be writing a review.
