Ive been experimenting with dvdfab and dvd shrink. is it possible to change the aspect ratios on them to keep the video widescreen without having the black parts of the widescreen part in the video?

Not with a standard 4:3 ratio TV / Monitor.
Think about it, it's like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.
You can pan and scan, but you will cut off the sides of the video.
Black bars aren't that big of a deal :)

That's odd. You have a widescreen TV, and are playing 16x9 DVDs on it, and it's stretched??
Very odd.
Could be that the DVDs are 2.35:1 ratio, which will have black bars even on a real 16x9 (or HD) TV. A good percentage of Hollywood movies are shot in 2.35.

There is none. I think I'm with setarip_old in thinking that you have your DVD player (or TV) set up wrong.

With dvdfab or dvd shrink is it possible to change the pixel on the video to something like 588 x 244? or would i use another program for that?

Is there a reason you've not either tried nor acknowledged the suggestion to try changing your standalone player's or your widescreen TV's display settings?

As suggested, check your tv settings. Mine has an automatic setting that when turned on automatically sizes the picture. Not sure what it may be called on yours but on mine the setting is called Aspect.
