hi,
after i was able to experience my windows xp mce 2005 crash and never recover i thought i give vista as my media center os a try.
i installed the haali splitter for mp4 and mkv and coreavc 1.1.0.5 (1.2 wont install under vista). ok in media center classic everything was fine. now i tried windows media player which crashed immediatly. so i installed powerdvd ultra and again in mpc everything worked as expected and wmp crashed (the message reads 'blabla stopped working...'). so i tried ffdshow which worked perfectly everywhere. but i did 1080p x264 encodes which needed more power and so use more than one cpu core for decoding (or the gpu, but this is not supported yet under vista). there was no way to get this to work in wmp or media center. so i tried the elecard streameye tools (trial version) which surprisingly worked also perfectly.
i do not get this, why the same decoders work in mpc, which was so configured to use the external filters and decoders, but not in wmp and mc under vista. i got everything to work perfectly under xp mce quiet easily but here...
another thing are ac3 decoders (i know wrong forum but it fits the topic). EVERY decoder i tried except ffdshow did not work (no crash but no audio either). man why does my nvidia decoder or the powerdvd decoder not work here. again everything works in mpc.
does vista not use the directshow filtergraph anymore or what is the source of this?
