Windows Update -> no ff/rw/skipping?!

After installing a bunch of Windows security updates, my x264 files have suddenly lost the ability to fast forward/rewind/skip in VLC! This also happened on my other computer, so I'm pretty sure Microsoft is at fault.

Is there any way to fix this?

Have you tried uninstalling VLC, rebooting, and then reinstalling VLC?

Whoa, it works again -- on both computers! Very weird.
I didn't even restart...
