I'm makeing a video using MPEG-2, 640 X 480, 29.97 Fps and audio set to 44.1 kHz, 16 bit, Stereo. For a minute and a half of play time the file is 65meg. When ripping DVD's I can get DVD quality of an hour on to one cd (650 to 700 meg.). How can I convert MPEG-2 to DivX 4.11? I tried running it through VirtualDub using the filter but the end file was bigger after both passes. I'm sure this is simple and I'm missing something. Thanks in advance for the help.

Should I be posting this in a different sub-forum? This is my first time posting here so I don't know my way around too well.

Try the same with your MPEG2 than you would do with the .vob files from a file ( which are actually MPEG2 files ). Do you use Gordian Knot for your DVD Rips? If no I suggest you give it a try. As for all important DVD Ripping/Encoding methods Doom9 has written a good guide on it. In case you need help using Gordian Knot.

... i bet you forgot to compress the audio and now do have a raw PCM audio file with your DivX4 movie being huge ...
