hey everyone,

my old philips dvp642 crapped out on me so i went back and returned it and got a new one. the old one had a manufacturing date of aug 2005, the new one has a manu date of nov 2006.

anyways my problem is, the video on the new one plays back xvid files stretched whereas the old one did not. i have looked through the menus and cant find any adjustments. as well, the counter in the top right corner will not go away. even by pressing the display button on the remote, it doesnt do anything.

anyone know why this new player, same model, is having these problems and how i can fix it?

well i was reading around on other forums and have the timer problem resolved some what, it still comes back when a new disk is put it.

and the AR problem seems to have to do with this new chipset philips is using which there is not support for....great!! thanks philips

looks like i have to go out and buy a new one anyways.

Were both players 642/37? If so, I don't believe there was any chip change.

On the other hand, it is possible that they have/had different firmware versions...

I recall when I had one that the "rule" was no video wider than 640, else the image would always look like 4x3 A/R

Thanks for the link.

Would've saved about 10 minutes of reading if you'd said, "Scroll to the bottom of the page" ;>}
