Actually....

Most MediaTek chip-set based players have supported these formats for over three years ;)

Wow I wanted to ask you for a long time is that Rutger hauer

I only got excited about the ogg, dts ac3 bits
Most tech specs don´t put things like chipset manufacturers.
and there are a lot of not so supporting cheap players.

I just read this thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=122011

For standalone compatibility, stick to mp3 CBR. I have a Sony RDR HX725 DVD recorder, and it will not play ac3 audio in AVI's. It does play VBR mp3's but after seeking, the audio can get out of sync. The player is DivX certified. Indeed, it seems that DivX certification requires mp3 support, but not ac3 support.

This guy explains it better than me
This is also important for me as I´m doing most of mine now in ac3.

Sorry about the photo thing ,in that shot there were similarities

Simple answer....

If you require an MPEG-4/DVD player that offers greater file format compatibility.... Don't buy a Sony (especially a recorder), as their proprietary chip-sets just don't cut-it ;)

Interesting as I am looking for a descent MPEG-4 player at the moment. I would have thought Sony above all should have been alright ,much like this poor fellow did.

Last week I purchased an Airis standalone player for my mother in law. Happily watched a divx file from the usb key. Cost 49 euros . All it said on the box was MPEG-4 . You just never can tell .

I would love the packard bell 460 as this has ogg ac3 nero and a few other interesting bits , but can´t find one for love or money. I rang Pakard Bell , and was told they´d get back to me

That was three months ago.

However, a player fitted with a decent chip-set and good quality firmware is a more important consideration ;)

However, a player fitted with a decent chip-set and good quality firmware is a more important consideration Could you recomend a player with these points
SeeMoreDigital.

Most of the models I have been looking at have mediatek chipsets fitted.
These are some in my local shops : Woxter , Blu-sens , Sigmatek , LG , Does one have better firmware support that your aware of ? I did get a bit distracted by the stats.
Thanks

Could you recomend a player with these points My personal favourites are players fitted with MediaTek's chip-set from known manufacturers.

Sadly, many Sigma chip-set based players include their awful Syabas user interface. And it's a similar situation with Zoran chip-set based players.

Just wondering what you think .

There is a pdf also dispalying the basic stats. Do you know of a link where I could find the chipset details ,specs.
thanks.

That link was for the xdiv 600 , not to mind ,there were some other links to feedback, on other woxter models ,some good some bad.
Woxter has been around, from what I read ,since 1999.
I read your chip review and saw an xdiv 500 mentioned in there , thats what got me thinking.
Next step, go to media markt physically (because their website is crap,or I can´t find the MPEG4 players section),note all players that are in my price/specification list ,note model number, and then come home to check the chipset information . I´m sure if I ask this in the shop they´d just look at me strange.
