Hey all, I am slightly noob at this hence posting in the nooblet section, however i am no stranger to the dvd copying world. I have been using basic programs such as clonedvd with anydvd and that has worked, although the quality wasnt all that great and 1 in 5 dvds didint burn or failed to burn wasting time and money. At the moment i am using DVDshrink with the 'Burn with nero' option. I also run anydvd when doing this(dont know if nessecary?). This way is working fine although im getting about 1 out of 5 dvd's not burning properly or not decrypting.
My question is....
What is the easiest (or close to easiest) ways of copying/backing up a commercial DVD, without it stuffing up reguarly or not decrypting properly????
I am a network administrator by trade so im not a computer noob, its just that my dad backs up dvds aswell adn he isnt a total tech head if you know what i mean. Please get back to me with the best ways to backup/copy dvds.. Cheers :thanks:

The "BEST" thing you can do is look at your 'title' and re-read the forum rules. :)

There's no true "1-click" solution, if that's what you're asking for. My preferred method is to rip with RipIt4Me, remove unwanted material with DVD Shrink (CloneDVD2 is an easier to use software, but it's not freeware and doesn't provide as good a quality as DVD Shrink when compression is involved), then burn with ImgBurn.

Use the RipIt4Me package (with AnyDVD not running) to get the DVD files on the HD, then the free version of DVD Rebuilder for the rest of the process.

If you're after the easiest way, then it don't get much easier than using DVD Shrink with Nero (and automatically ripping, compressing, then burning). That's pretty much one step and the quality is probably the best you're gonna get without re-encoding.
There shouldn't be any problem with decrypting if you have AnyDVD running in the background. Maybe make sure you've got the latest version. It should decrypt pretty much every dvd fine.
If you're compressing quite a bit and after the best quality, then probably the best solution is DVD Rebuilder (using CCE). It's not really worth it though, unless you're compressing quite a lot. Most of the time, DVD Shrink's transcoding engine is more than good enough imo.

The easiest way is to not compress/strip/blank at all. Buy yourself some good DVD5 blanks (i.e. Verbatim +R), some dual-layer Verbatim +R discs, and you're set to copy both DVD5 and DVD9 sizes.
Use RipIt4Me to copy DVDs to your hard drive, and ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com) to burn them.
