View Full Version : Recent Shrink errors on a fresh old system

HISTORY:
I recently reinstalled W2KPro on this machine, which I've used to back up plenty of DVDs over the past few years. I replaced the mobo before I figured out my install CD was corrupt, but now I have a new CD. These show the old system hardware & specs.

It's now running on an EPoX mobo w/OS on a WD 160G ATA, and only one Seagate 400G SATA for storage. The DVD-ROM is an ancient Pioneer 116, and the burner is a Plextor 716A. I downloaded the latest versions of everything I could & reinstalled the other software that I keep archived.

PROBLEM:
I've used Shrink for years, so I'm not really a newbie, but I'm feeling like one because this seems like it OUGHT to be easy to solve, and I can't. I encountered this group of errors a while back, but I didn't have time to track them down since I got past them somehow (I've forgotten now).

A little while later, I hit this one, but I got past it, too.

Now just yesterday, this kept cropping up, and it took several reboots to get the backup done.

BUT WAIT; THERE'S MORE:
Now, here's the kicker. I'm limited to using this system because my other one (an HP 325c w/.5G RAM, NEC 3550A & LiteOn SHM-165H6S) AND my g/f's Vaio (PCV-RS710GX) were throwing similar errors so frequently that I gave up even trying with them a few weeks ago. All 3 systems have backed up MANY DVDs in the past with no problems (other than OPERATOR error :D) and I can't think of any changes that could have affected all 3. They've all always run NSW/NAV/LiveUpdate & SpyBot, and I've loaded Registry Mechanic. They all run regularly.

FINALLY - CAN WE GET TO THE QUESTION???
I know I'm not at the point of SOLVING this yet, but where do I start looking for the cause? Is it some software that I have installed on all 3 machines? Their hardware is sufficiently different that I don't think it's that. They're all connected to a switch/router & sharing a cable modem, but they're not "networked", meaning: I can't browse between any 2 of them thru My Network Places.

So the question is: where do I start?

@Steve83

Hi!

Odd though this may sound, try turning off the "Video Preview"...
