It means that as a content owner, I have mixed emotions on all this. The Mount Everest comment ment that no one here is doing all this work for any reason other then to inflate thier egos....correct me if I'm wrong.

Kinda of a benign statement but I sure wouldn't happy to find a "backed-up" disc in someone's DVD collection. However, using ripping software makes me money (legitmately of course).

I'll go ahead and step in here to say that you are wrong. We're here to reclaim fair use rights for making legitimate backups of media we own for personal use.

I, for one, plan to watch HD-DVDs on my HDTV streamed from my NAS. No scratched discs, no lost media, all fair use.

Well some of us want to just be able to playback the damn content we bought but won't play due to HDCP issues.

But I'm sure the sudden intense load on the servers here (that has caused doom9 to be unavailable for the first time in my memory) isn't all people who just want to use their bought HD-DVDs...
