changing aspect ratio

I created a 1.36gb xvid AC3 .avi file via StaxRip. I accidentally clicked on 'anamorphic' option. File result is awesome, save for the fact that now i have a very elongated movie. Is there an easy fix using software, that I can correct the aspect ratio, WITHOUT having to go through the 7 hour process over again? Thanks.

Plus, I'll need to cut out the last 2 minutes...I think I know how to cut .avi files.

You can change the AR with MPEG4Modifier.

OK...problem. How do I preview? I don't even know what aspect ratio to make it to.

I have played the original .avi file in VLC...when I selected the ratio 221:100, it played perfectly...that's the size I wanted. but when I put that in the above software, it became even more wider...so please help!

Anamorphic means the pixels aren't square. Since you had resized to the desired resolution before you made the mistake, you can check the source aspect ratio, pixel aspect ratio and display aspect ratio with G-Spot. The source aspect ratio should be the correct one in your case.

You can make an easy AviSynth script with resizing, if you're not sure what aspect ratio to choose, and preview it in VirtualDub (/Mod) or even faster (in case you would need to modify it) with AVSP (AviSynth editor).

Thank you, will try. I've never used the AVSP manually before. I'll see what I can do. Also, just noticed you live in HD...I also live in Eppelheim (about 1-2 months out of the year), the rest near los angeles. By the way, I have beento krakow...loved it there. Plus, my favourite director comes from there....Kieslowski, Krizstow (Blue, red, white...)

really quick, when i use gspot on the original source files...and i find the aspect ratio, do i plug the data into the Pixel AR portion (custom) OR the display AR (custom)?

NEVERMIND FOLKS....PROBLEM SOLVED.
I initially plugged in my VLC ratio of 221:100 into the Pixel AR custom box...INSTEAD of display AR side...it's fixed...I love you guys, thanks so so much!

I don't know StaxRip, however:
- provided you've chosen your desired resolution,
- you clicked "anamorphic" then, what changed "pixel aspect ratio",
- you should get another aspect ratio than "Square Pixel" after loading the final encode into MPEG4 Modifier (?),
- what makes the task really easy:
- you set it to square pixels and save the file (hopefully it's so easy).

OT : I used to live directly in the centre for a few months, then Im Neuenheimer Feld for 2 years, and again in the centre (Bergheimer Str.) at the end (I'm moving out).
