Hi all
What's the best way to get a file from iTunes format to MP3 format? I know I can burn it to disc, and rip it back to MP3, but there has to be a slicker way than that. Hasn't there...?
Thanks for taking the time to read. Thanks even more for any suggetions you might have.

m4a/mp4->mp3 is very easy in foobar2000 and a number of other batch converters. For m4p, you have to decrypt it first, and QTFairUse is probably the best way to do that; once you have the decrypted aac you just feed those into the batch converter.

iTunes has also a mp3 encoder. So, you just have to change the compressor in the settings for your transcodes.

Hi all
foxyshadis : Thanks for that. I have downloaded those two programs and post back my results.
Kurtnoise13 : Indeed, I found that under my preferences menu under the burning tab - it will burn MP3 to a CD, but I want these straight on my PC to transfer to my MP3 player and iTunes won't allow me to change the destination from E:\ to C:\.
Thanks again for your responses.

Note that the foobar's encoder (LAME) gives better sound quality than the iTunes encoder.

Total Recorder has always done it for me. I haven't done any iTunes since Pepsi was giving them away but as I recall it transcoded them at about 8X. It too uses LAME.
