I'm having some issues with black levels in ffdshow when playing back some HD x264 content. I am using VMR9 windowless in Zoom Player 5 and find the black levels are too bright/washed out. If I use COreAVC 1.2 the blacks are OK. I have had to compensate for the black levels in ffdshow with the gamma levels down to 0.88

As far as I know, HD content uses different matrices for color conversion than those used for SD. In other words, the color conversion currently performed by your chosen renderer is not appropriate for HD content. You are also using VMR9 which is not appropriate for displaying on a computer screen but on a TV screen.

Actually, see this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120718), which expands on KoD's comments. CoreAVC has a "fix range" checkbox for this, but you need a little more effort to get the same in ffdshow.
